Acquiring its name from an 11th century settlement on the Warner River, Rostock takes its name from the Slavic meaning 'broadening of the river.' Rostock is now the largest city in Germany's northern region, bordering the Baltic coastline, yet continues to retain its charm and culture to offer visitors a rich tapestry of history and beauty gathered over an 800 year period. Destroyed partially during World War II it was subsequently restored and has now become a year round center for history and music; concerts held in the Church excel due to the superb acoustics of the building.

For days out in Rostock you can visit the city's zoo, enjoy a round of golf at one of its several courses, visit the beach at Warnemunde, or take in one the regular festivals or concerts at the city hall. Getting out and about is simple with a choice of transportation. There are local train services, buses, taxis and the ferry bus operated from the harbor. So you can explore without the hassle and worry of driving.

Warnemunde is known as the seaside part of Rostock where visitors and locals can relax on the large beach, take in the lighthouse, chat with the local fishermen or perhaps hire a boat for a few hours.
